Job Summary of Retail Sales Associate

As the name suggests, a retail sales associate is directly in involved in sales and provision of valuable assistance to customers. Their knowledge of products and services enables these associates to inform the customer reliably. They also handle stock in their designated areas. In some cases, retail sales associates are responsible for the safety of other co-workers and customers within the shopping premise(s). They are therefore expected to correct any hazardous condition within the shopping area and submit reports to the Manager accordingly. Sales associates may work under other associates, a department supervisor as well as report to the sales manager to guarantee customer satisfaction.

Primary Responsibilities of Retail Sales Associates

  • Ensure customer happiness by providing quick and friendly service. This may involve (but not limited to) constantly seeking out customers, showing interest in them, handling many customer simultaneously and conducting telephone follow-ups.
  • Using their product knowledge to answer to various concerns from customers. They may direct the customer to the right merchandise, give information about a product, help people with special orders or simply share the pros of a particular product or service.
  • Work with other associates or sales representatives to enhance service delivery. They should resolve refunds, order cancellations and other complaints to ensure customer satisfaction at all times.
  • Promote sales through execution of the Sale Process (i.e. cordially welcoming the customer, qualifying and recommending products or services them and finally closing sale. Associates also avail product/service choices to customers in an honest manner
  • Ensure that there is enough stock, especially the latest and or trending products. They maintain stock, clean them as well as assist in minor  cross merchandising
  • Develop personal strategies; impart the customers and other associates with new skills. They educate buyers about new products/services; share their knowledge with other associates as well as device new sales tact for personal use.
  • Ensure safety, security and contribute to the overall integrity of the store. They treat other associates and supervisor(s) with uttermost respect. They also take action to alleviate any dangerous thing within the store and follow all the anti-loss policies initiated by the company.
  • Set and meet different sales goals with the aim of maximizing sales in the store.
  • Attend trade fairs and marketing training to get new retail skills

Academic Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have passed the Sales Associate Test
  • Bachelor degree or masters in marketing or related field is an added advantage
  • The candidate must be registered with credible regulatory bodies

Experience

  • At least 1-year experience from a busy store
  • Experience as a customer care representative improves one chances of

Skills and Abilities

  • Should be self-motivated i.e. a person who can work with as minimum supervision as possible
  • A fluent speaker with exceptional comprehension abilities to help deliver information to clients better. This will also help the candidate to understand product problems and offer lasting solutions.
  • Should have strong interpersonal skills
  • Should be good in networking and persuading clients
  • Must have basic computer literacy
  • Be a team player and capable of handling stress
